Jambi Forest

According to Governor's decree No. 108, 1999, the area of forest in Jambi province is 2,179,440 ha (42.73% of the total land area). 870,250 ha of this is protection forest (17% of land area) and about 1.320.700 ha production forest (25,67% of total area). Generally, production forest in Jambi Province is lowland tropical forest which is very vulnerable to the destruction.

Map bellow shows Production Forest according to the Jambi Land Use Plan,1995. However, the situation on the ground is no longer in accord with that plan. The area of forest classified as limited or restricted production forest, has been allocated to industrial timber plantation. This change ignores technical constraints on land use which are reflected in the relevant government regulations.
